Photo Contest Rules & Terms:
The Don Sutherland Memorial Photo Contest begins Dec 06, 2011, and ends May 11, 2012, at 2pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are 18 years old or older. No purchase of any kind is necessary to enter. The opportunity to enter may be affected by local ability to access the internet at any particular time. All entries must be received through the website before 2pm Eastern Time on May 11, 2012. New Wave Media and its subsidiaries are not responsible for: incomplete, lost, late, damaged, scrambled or misdirected entries or other errors of any kind whether human, mechanical or electronic, which may limit a user's ability to participate in the contest. Who may enter:
Photographers 18 years old or older - except for individuals affiliated with New Wave Media, Maritime Activity Reports, or The Maritime Group, including employees, interns, volunteers, and their immediate families (children, siblings and spouses) and others living in their households - are eligible.   Photographs must have been shot by the entrant within the past three (3) years (since January 1, 2008). Cropped photos are eligible in all categories. We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents, are acceptable. If our administrators see that a photographer has obviously altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to disqualify it. For a photo in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian and provide it to the contest administrators upon request. Photographs that have won any other contests or have been published in magazines and newspapers (except online) are not eligible. We define winning as having won a grand prize or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place overall. Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's rights, including copyright, are not eligible. How to enter:
Please submit photographs on-line through www.maritimephotographs.com. We do not accept photographs submitted through email or postal mail. We do not accept more than one contestant per e-mail address. Eligible contestants may enter as many photos as they like. High-quality scans of non-digital photographs are acceptable. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible. Use the on-line entry form available on our website. Complete a separate form for each photo submitted. Photographs must be in a .jpeg, .jpg or .gif format. Files submitted may not be larger than 2,048k (2Mb). The 50 finalists will be asked to submit a high-resolution file or an original negative, print or slide. Original negatives, prints, or slides will be returned to finalists. We reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 8 x 10 inches or an original photo negative, print or slide. Judging:
Judging will be conducted by a panel chosen by New Wave Media, taking into account the member votes. Winning photographs and selected finalists will be featured on www.maritimephotographs.com and in the July 2012 edition of Maritime Reporter and Engineering News. Grand Prize Winner will be featured on the cover of the magazine. Decisions of the judges will be final. Please do not contact us about the status of entries.
Rights:
By entering the contest, entrants grant New Wave Media a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, archival, scholarly, commercial, and all other purposes.  Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible.  New Wave Media will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Conditions:
The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. New Wave Media reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. New Wave Media reserves the right to cancel or modify the contest if fraud destroys the integrity of the game as determined by New Wave Media in its sole discretion. All entries become the property of New Wave Media and will not be returned or acknowledged. Decisions of New Wave Media will be final.    Thank you,
